Improved SSI Absolute Rotary Encoder

OPTOCODE SSI Rotary Encoders have been upgraded with a new interface that enables simultaneous communication of absolute and incremental rotary position data.  This interface allows for robust point-to-point communication between encoders and various types of programmable logic controllers (PLC).  The new interface reports absolute rotary position data to the PLC using the synchronous serial interface (SSI) standard , operating over an RS-422/485 communication link. The encoder can also transmit a series of electronic pulses as the shaft rotates - up to 16, 384 pulses per rotation.  Incremental pulses can be sent via either an RS-422/485 or a push/pull connection.  This upgrade also enhanced diagnostic reporting via case-mounted LED's and via the SSI connection.

The SSI interface provides users with a very flexible, simple and efficient serial interface. SSI is an open platform, making it very popular in the automation field. The OCD SSI has additional options like preset feature for easier installation and alignment, incremental output for extra versatility and strobe output for easy networking of up to 10 encoders to the same data line. In addition to the established models, OCD SSI encoders are also available as through hollow shaft versions which allow optimal mechanical integration. Multiple mounting and housing material options helps in customizing the encoder according to the application. Furthermore, IP66/67 protected heavy duty models with a special encapsulated housing are available for use in rugged environments.
