Compact & robust: high-resolution optical encoders with a through hollow shaft

For the first time, multi-turn and single-turn CANopen models from POSITAL's line of OPTOCODE encoders are now also available as through hollow shaft versions. The new models – especially the single-turn model, which has a depth of only 35 mm – are particularly suited for applications with limited installation space. Thanks to the through hollow shaft, the encoders can be combined with additional measuring systems, thus allowing users to meet increased safety standards. Requiring neither couplings nor other bearing elements, they can be easily integrated into machines. Moreover, they can be used to retrofit existing systems and are suited for installation with handwheels. Users can easily configure the new devices via LSS (Layer Setting Service), which requires no special knowledge and makes it possible to e.g. retroactively assign the node number and Baud rate via software. In all models, node num-ber and Baud rate (20 kBaud to 1 MBaud) can be easily adjusted via SDO tele-grams. Additionally, an integrated terminating resistor can be switched via SDO telegram.
In addition to speed and acceleration value output, CANopen encoders from POSITAL enable users to store up to eight cam values in the device (they fea-ture eight software programmable cams). Moreover, all models are equipped with a bootloader which facilitates remote maintenance, allowing users to ex-ecute software updates via CAN and to update device profiles. Preset value, resolution and limit switch parameters can also be configured via CAN and stored in the non-volatile EEPROM.
Like all OPTOCODE encoders, the new models use a tried and tested opto-electronic scanning method to record position values. The single-turn sensor provides a resolution of 16 Bit per revolution. Multi-turn units register a maxi-mum of 16.384 revolutions (14 bit), thereby covering an overall measuring range of 30 Bit.
